The Adult Habilitation Center is a community based program providing day treatment services to individuals living in Elk and Cameron Counties. Its primary objective is to provide adults who have mental retardation with the necessary life experiences that will enhance their self-identity and provide personal fulfillment. This is accomplished through various activities. Activities can include but are not limited to grief, personal hygiene, time telling, community awareness, environmental awareness, social interaction as well as independent activities. The outcome of these experiences results in the individual developing a realistic identity of self which include recognition of one's strengths and needs. Based on the normalization principle and the development model, the Adult Habilitation Center provides training necessary for independent functioning at home or in the community.

The Adult Habilitation Center also offers its services to older adults in Elk, Cameron and McKean counties.

Community Habilitation

This is an extension of the Adult Habilitation Center with services being provided in the home to individuals who are unable to attend the program on a regular basis. The mission of this Program is the same as the on-site Program and the same training based on the normalization principle is provided in the home setting.

Dickinson Mental Health Center operates Partial Hospitalization Programs in Bradford and Ridgway. The programs are designed to meet the specific needs of adults with moderate to severe mental health problems who require a more structured and intensive therapeutic experience than can be provided at an outpatient clinic but less restrictive than inpatient care.

Upon admission, a planned schedule of activities, including group, individual and psychiatric therapies is designed to meet specific needs. Group therapy is an important part of the treatment approach offered at the programs. Participants support each other and work together to solve mutual problems and difficulties. Individual therapy is offered by an assigned primary therapist on a regularly scheduled basis. Each program has the services of a psychiatrist who is available on a regular basis to evaluate progress, perform evaluations and prescribe and monitor medications if this is a part of a treatment program. Occupational and recreational therapies are also offered at each of the facilities to enhance physical and mental capabilities.

Each client's schedule of attendance and treatment plan is individualized to try and best meet his/her needs.
